Kakisa is a South Slavey Dene community at the end of a 13 kilometre, all-weather side road off the Mackenzie Highway. It is a small community tucked in along the eastern shore of Kakisa Lake at the mouth of the Kakisa River. The community is a cluster of cluster of mainly log homes and teepees hidden among the trees. Kakisa’s traditional Slavey name--K'agee-- means “between the willows.”
